This position will remain open until filled.

SUMMARY:
This position performs responsible work involving investigation, enforcement of regulations, tribal ordinance compliance, evidence management, crime prevention, animal control, and other related duties as required. This position is that of a uniformed, non-sworn officer of the tribal police department. This person assists and augments the personnel of this department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.
Patrols the tribal community and provides prompt assistance to community members, citizens, guests and visitors
Assists security with parking issues and compliance of parking regulations
Issues County and Tribal citations to vehicles violating tribal, state and local ordinances
Collects monies and issues receipts for parking fines, criminal backgrounds and animal fees
Inspects properties, prepares reports and notices of violations in regard to Tribal ordinances, delivers notices to violators, recommends issuance of citations and provides testimony in court when needed.
Provides support services to patrol officers and office personnel
Directs traffic as assigned and needed
Assists at incidents involving crime scenes, disasters, and accidents by directing and controlling citizens and motor vehicles, or as otherwise assigned
Maintains, categorizes, secures, organizes, tracks, disposes or arranges for the return of found and evidentiary property and items
Develops and participates in public relations activities, presentations and educational programs as appropriate and directed. Administers and provides training to the tribal community in reference to Crime Prevention programs
Delivers informational packets, citations and documents as directed
Operates State computer to obtain drivers license and criminal history information for Crime Prevention programs, as required
Assists sworn officers with non-enforcement non-arrest investigative activities (i.e. search warrants, crime scene searches, bad checks, etc.) Recovers and assists in the recovery, transport and inventory of lost, abandoned or confiscated property and animals
Drives police vehicles for servicing, repair and maintenance
Provides and assists with First Responder techniques to the general public, as needed
Maintain files on impounded stray, domestic and wild animals. Impounds and transports stray, domestic and wild animals
Inputs information, creates logs and prepares reports, documents, forms and correspondence into computer system, also copies and send FAXs as needed
Assist security with the posting and signage of roadways for specific and special community events.
Provides training when appropriate, as directed
All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of six (6) months public contact and related experience
Obtain a First Responder Certification including CPR and Automated Defibrillator equipment certification within one year of hire and maintain thereafter at an Emergency Medical Responder Level
Knowledge of community, county and surrounding area, including important buildings and the street system
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and department policies
Knowledge of police procedures and techniques including operation of police vehicles, radios, radar and related equipment
Able to impound, capture, transport, handle and care for stray and wild animals
Considerable ability to analyze situations and determine appropriate action
Considerable ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis and emergency situations
Considerable ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, and with respect for citizens' rights
Considerable ability to read and follow department directives and policies and to read police reports (in English)
Working ability to prepare accurate and thorough reports and to operate a computer
Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
Sensitive to Native American Culture
Must pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check
Valid drivers license and proof of insurability

Preferred
Associate degree in law enforcement or equivalent
Heavy public contact experience is highly desirable
Ability to speak a second language
Certifications in the following areas: First responder, EMT, CPR, field sobriety, crime scene investigation, and intoxilyzer operator
Experience in crime prevention, DARE, and/or CounterAct

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*
Must be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods throughout the day when patrolling on foot or in a police vehicle
Must have ability to lift and carry or drag objects or people weighing up to 150 pounds at an accident scene or to chase and subdue suspects as required
Must be able to operate office equipment, use measuring devices, operate machines and motor vehicles or equipment.
Must have ability to use both large and fine motor skills to manipulate objects requiring manual dexterity in subduing suspects, driving a police vehicle, or handling firearms
Must have ability to investigate crime and accidents through visual inspection of scene and analysis of odors such as fire, smoke, alcohol, or drugs
Must have ability to bend, crouch, stoop, stretch or crawl periodically as needed
Must have ability to see, hear, and remember people, evidence, facts, and circumstances, and to be able to identify color in identifying suspects, and to have good night vision when patrolling at night

REQUIRED TRAINING:
Effectively Handling Harassment training
Any position-related training as determined by department manager

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to extreme weather conditions
Work occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives, exposure to vibration, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment;
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
