Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days in office

Location: Houston, TX (Westside/ Memorial/ Energy Corridor)

Our client, an independent energy company, has a permanent opportunity for a Contracts Analyst to be based in Houston, TX.

Position Summary

The Contracts Analyst serves as an internal resource and external contact for management and administration of contracts. This position reports to the Global Contracts team in the Supply Chain department and is crucial for providing comprehensive support in contract review, drafting, and negotiations.

Responsibilities include providing support to Company’s divisions and operations, addressing the most critical contractual and commercial needs of our corporate support functions and teams. This includes support for our domestic and international drilling teams, onshore and offshore production teams, major construction projects, and related engineering and technical services.

Expectations of this role include making key contributions to maintaining the health of the SCM discipline via peer reviews, training and coaching as well as being directly involved in significant projects impacting the business unit’s performance objectives

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads multi-discipline negotiating teams in complex negotiations
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an appropriate suite of contract documents to ensure operational consistency across Company
  • Develop, implement, and maintain detailed contracts management work processes reflecting best
  • ethical and business practices, and ensure operational consistency across Company
  • Work closely with other service groups (e.g. SCM, Legal, IT, HSE, Finance, Insurance & Operations) to ensure their requirements are effectively addressed in contracting documents and procedures, and implemented across Company’s operations
  • Collaborate with SCM colleagues to develop new country entry contracting strategies that comply with all local laws, customs and with Productions Sharing Agreements or Joint Operating Agreements terms
  • Participate in SCM sourcing teams for the research, bid and contract management of supplies and services
  • Participate in strategic planning to target future cost savings
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Assist in the development of annual business objectives for the Global Contracts team
  • Forecasts market category developments and Company demand
  • Acts as an expert and is regarded as a leading authority within Company
  • Monitor new and innovative practices within the industry and continuously improve contracting procedures and documents based on these learnings
  • Monitor compliance with approved documents and Contract Management procedures and recommending corrective actions as required
  • Identify and leverage synergies across Company’s operational divisions, including through the implementation of key contractor agreements and master service agreements
  • Ensure comprehensive contracting strategies and plans are prepared that reflect the project's execution plan and result in best value for the project
  • Monitor internal client satisfaction with contracts and recommend corrective actions as required
  • Manage contracts with suppliers to ensure supplier compliance; evaluate supplier performance through review of reports and client feedback; resolve issues and implement solutions to address negative supplier performance
  • Demonstrates full understanding of negotiation dynamics and consistently utilizes successful negotiating and influencing behaviors
  • Trains and coaches others around complex negotiating and influencing techniques

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Supply Chain or related study a plus)
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry and with supply chain overseeing contract preparation and review, contract negotiations, contract compliance and vendor performance management, at least four (4) of those supporting Drilling and Completions
  • Experience negotiating drilling rig contracts (domestic and overseas is a plus)
  • Competency level of Mastery of Contract and skillful in negotiation and risk management
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Icertis experience preferred, but not necessarily required
  • Strong SAP experience
  • Background in Law, whether as a lawyer or certified paralegal
  • Knowledge of French, Portuguese and/or Vietnamese
