Job Description

*Job Overview*
The Director of Education (DE) of Our Little Village Learning Center (OLVLC) is responsible for developing a quality daycare and preschool education curriculum that supports the learning goals of the center. The DE works with the Teachers to ensure that they are prepared to deliver the lesson plans and that the lesson plans meet the curriculum guidelines. S/he oversees professional development plans for the learning center and individual teachers. The DE coordinates the ordering of supplies and materials to conduct the lessons. S/he also manages the quality improvement activities including accreditation self-study.

The DE will demonstrate advanced skills in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide staff, and resolve parental concerns. This role will regularly work with volunteers and community members to plan and lead various activities. The DE is responsible to collaborate with the Director of Operations to execute the VTO which captures the vision, goals, and values of OLVLC, maintaining the highest quality of care and early learning for children. The DE must be comfortable working in a Christian environment, leading children in prayer, and implementing biblical principles and presenting a Christ-centered curriculum.

*Essential Duties:*

· Provide a high quality, developmentally appropriate program curriculum that adheres to the early learning standards of SD DSS, QCSD.

· Create, implement, and monitor staff schedule using the learning center scheduling application.

· Ensure curriculum meets the early learning goals of the center, supports cognitive and physical development of the children, and adheres to state and local regulations for educational curriculum.

· Work with Teachers to develop lesson plans that aligned to the early learning goals curriculum; ensure they have access to appropriate materials to deliver lessons.

· Review Teacher lesson plans, notes and comments and make suggestions for improvement.

· Collaborate with Teachers to prepare means of sharing curriculum with parents.

· Identify educational opportunities to further develop skills of learning center staff.

· Stay abreast of new developments in early learning curricula; introduce curricula improvements.

· Follow all learning center policies, including the OLVLC Financial Policies and Procedures and all state regulations.

· Maintain communications with parents of current and prospective students through direct conversation, newsletters, electronic messaging, as stated in the parent handbook.

· Collaborate with the Director of Operations to plan and implement community outreach activities to draw volunteers, develop partnerships and promote community relationships.

· Conduct program tours.

· Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies.

· Resolve conflicts (including corrective action when necessary) to ease miscommunication, differences of opinion, and misunderstanding.

· Follow safety, illness and emergency procedures; ensure staff are trained appropriately.

· Assist Director of Operations in conducting required fire/storm/disaster drills,

· Communicate with the Director of Operations and the Chair of the Board of OLVLC any time there are issues of life safety, building compromise, liability, or injury.

· Maintain safety for parents and staff indoors and outdoors (entryways, hallways, sidewalks etc.)

· Ensure program spaces inside and outside are stimulating and orderly.

· Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

· Complete 20 hours of professional growth continuing education training every year including 6 hours of orientation training and CPR and First Aide certification within the first 90 days of employment.

· Thorough knowledge of the parent and staff handbook to enforce and follow the policies, procedures and protocols listed in it.

· Hire all classroom positions and collaborate with Director of Operations on lead classroom positions and other positions as needed.

· Collaborate with Director of Operations on personnel issues such as insubordination, disciplinary action, work improvement planning or termination.

· Conduct classroom observations monthly

· Conduct semi-annual classroom staff performance reviews

· Participate in collaborative meetings and events to better the center involvement in city and childcare communities.

· Other duties as assigned

*Required Qualifications*

· Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field of study preferred

· Minimum of 30 credits in ECE.

· Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.

· 5 years of direct professional experience in an early childhood setting.

· Strong oral and written communication skills and technology skills.

· A strong understanding of child development and curriculum

· Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification and renewed every 2 years.

*Physical Requirements *

* Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.

· Able to interact with children in many types of activities including but not limited to lifting up to 45 pounds, bend down and be on the floor at the children’s level and be able to get back up without aids.

· Must be able and willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $47,000.00 per year
