Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must have no criminal record or criminal charges pending
  3. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with liability insurance
  4. Must be able to speak, read and write English
  5. Must have or be willing to obtain First Aide/CPR certification
  6. Must have a clear TB and physical examination before first day of employment
  7. Must have an bachelor's degree in accounting or in related field
  8. Must have 3 years' experience in accounting
  9. Must be skilled in data entry
  10. Must have superior computer skills – Microsoft Windows environment and Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Have a bachelor's degree in accounting or in related field
  2. Be Bilingual – able or willing to learn to speak, read and write English and Spanish
  3. Be a local resident of Cameron or Willacy County
  4. Be a person sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure smooth functioning of payroll and accounts payable activities
  2. Verify timesheets and process payroll accurately and on schedule
  3. Maintain employee direct deposit and vendor EFT records
  4. Process and distribute employee W-2s, vendor 1099s, and assist with Tax Exemption Certificates
  5. Prepare quarterly IRS reports (941), TEC reports, and monthly retirement contributions
  6. Verify invoices and supporting documentation before payment
  7. Code and issue purchase orders daily
  8. Ensure timely payment of bills to avoid penalties
  9. Maintain accurate coding for G/L accounts, funds, and grants
  10. Maintain vehicle insurance documentation for mileage reimbursement
  11. Support Head Start families in promoting children's well-being and academic success
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  13. Work evenings, weekends, or holidays for special projects as requested

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Averages six hours of sitting, one hour of standing, and one hour of walking in a usual workday
  2. Requires employee to occasionally crawl and twist in performing duties
  3. Needs to carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally
  4. Uses lower extremities frequently in simple/firm movement and balancing
  5. Maintains head/neck continuously in flexing movements and occasionally in static position & rotational/extension movements
  6. Needs appropriate or corrected vision, requires the ability to judge distance and space relationships, uses peripheral vision while eyes are fixed, uses eye adjustment in doing near point work, and requires the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  7. Does frequent speaking/hearing tasks with staff, co-workers, parents and supervisors
  8. Performs work area surveys to prevent injuries or accidents
  1. Exposure to indifferent outdoor weather conditions (cold, heat, sun, rain etc.)

  • Complying with safety rules
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Using safety equipment (support belts, goggles, etc.)
  • Using proper climbing equipment
