Overview Starr Whitehouse, an award‑winning landscape architecture and urban planning practice based in New York City, Atlanta, GA and Hudson, NY, seeks passionate landscape designers with 0‑5 years of experience to work in our NYC or Hudson, NY offices. The Starr Whitehouse studio works across geographies, helping communities, institutions, businesses and local governments shape the urban realm. Recent work includes: converting a highway overpass into a new park to reconnect an African American community severed by 1950s infrastructure; integrating ecology and environmental education into state-of-the-art playground design; extending New York’s greenway system to serve East Harlem and the outer boroughs; ecologically adapting a Great Lakes shoreline for climate change; designing affordable housing landscapes with a focus on community health and well‑being; and creating safe, green and welcoming streetscapes from New York City to Atlanta, GA. We are looking to add an entry‑level landscape designer with 0‑5 years of experience and a master’s degree in landscape architecture. The ideal candidate is a talented designer with superb critical thinking, excellent visual communication, proficiency in digital modeling, knowledge of ecological and sustainable principles of landscape architecture, and a passion for collaboration. The candidate will work in NYC or Hudson, NY with teams across all three offices to contribute to the design and production of projects from concept through construction administration. Qualifications Professional degree in Landscape Architecture, MLA preferred License in Landscape Architecture, a plus 0‑5 years of professional experience Core Skills Passion for design Strong desire to learn, engage with others, and elaborate design ideas from design studio Experience with all phases of design from concept design through construction administration preferred Ability to efficiently produce accurate and high‑quality drawings with guidance Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English fluency) Strong proficiency in design software. Studio tools include AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Rhino, Lumion, Grasshopper, and Adobe Creative Suite. Additional Skills Experience with project implementation and approvals Experience with project management, both client‑facing and as an internal leader Basic understanding of project budgets and their relationship to individual effort Specialization in ecology, sustainability, or experience with waterfront or wetland environments Experience with ArcPro / ArcGIS Driver’s license Position details This is a full‑time, in‑office position in NYC or Hudson, NY, with an option for some remote working days. Estimated salary range is $70,000 to $85,000 based on ability and relevant work experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), commuter benefits, and paid holidays.
