Job Title: Middle School Girls Basketball Head Coach/ Varsity Assistant Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director

Job Summary:

The Middle School Girls Basketball Head Coach at Codman Academy is responsible for leading and developing the girls' basketball program at the middle school level. The head coach will provide instruction in fundamental basketball skills, strategies, and physical training while creating a supportive and inclusive team environment. This position emphasizes character development, teamwork, and good sportsmanship, ensuring student-athletes grow both on and off the court. The head coach must adhere to the rules and regulations established by the MCSAO/MIAA and the policies of Codman Academy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of coaching experience at the middle school or high school level, or competitive experience in basketball.
• Strong knowledge of basketball techniques, strategies, and rules.
• Ability to foster positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, staff, and the community.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Coaching & Instruction: Lead the training, development, and instruction of middle school student-athletes, focusing on skill enhancement, game strategy, and character building.
• Practice Planning: Develop and implement organized practice schedules that promote individual and team growth.
• Game Preparation: Prepare the team for games by developing strategies, scouting opponents, and conducting pre-game meetings.
• Discipline & Conduct: Uphold and enforce standards of behavior and discipline during practices and games, promoting good sportsmanship and respect among athletes.
• Communication: Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, and the athletic department regarding team expectations, performance, and schedules.
• Event Participation: Attend all practices, games, and team events, including community engagement activities such as parent meetings, award ceremonies, and fundraising events.
• Safety Protocols: Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices and competitions by following established safety protocols.
• Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and organization of all basketball equipment and uniforms, ensuring they are in good condition and properly secured.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain records to ensure compliance with MCSAO/MIAA regulations and Codman Academy policies.
• Professional Development: Stay updated on coaching techniques and strategies by participating in clinics, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
• Community Engagement: Represent Codman Academy in a professional manner, fostering positive relationships with the community and promoting the middle school girls basketball program.
