JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a bold, relationship-driven Regional Admissions Counselor who thrives on connection, storytelling, and impact. Based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, this role is designed for a high-energy recruitment professional who enjoys being on the road, building trust in communities, and serving as the face of Fort Valley State University across an expanded, high-priority territory.

As a Regional Admissions Counselor, you will take ownership of your territory and operate with a high level of independence, strategy, and creativity. You will meet students where they are-in schools, communities, living rooms, and virtual spaces, helping them see themselves at FVSU and guiding them confidently through one of the most important decisions of their lives.

If you love travel, public speaking, mentorship, and watching students light up when they realize college is within reach, this role was built for you.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as an ambassador for Fort Valley State University by representing the institution at in-person and virtual recruitment events across metro Atlanta and additional assigned out-of-state territories, including high schools, college fairs, community organizations, and special programs. You will proudly share the Wildcat story while building excitement, trust, and awareness.
  • Take full ownership of assigned recruitment territory by developing, managing, and executing a comprehensive territory plan in collaboration with the Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment. This includes travel planning, school visit strategy, yield initiatives, and enrollment goal tracking.
  • Build and nurture authentic, long-term relationships with prospective students, parents, high school counselors, teachers, administrators, alumni, and community partners through consistent outreach, presentations, and personalized follow-up.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support major recruitment and yield events such as Open House programs, admitted student days, regional receptions, and targeted outreach initiatives. Serve as a lead coordinator for select signature events that directly influence enrollment decisions.
  • Lead intentional outreach campaigns using phone, email, text, and CRM tools to move students confidently through the admissions funnel from prospect to enrollment.
  • Continuously assess territory performance and recruitment outcomes by reviewing data, identifying trends, and recommending creative strategies to improve reach, engagement, and conversion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in college admissions, student recruitment, advising, or documented leadership experience in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large, multi-state recruitment territory with minimal supervision.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to connect authentically with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, travel-intensive role.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to independently initiate, manage, and complete projects.
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems and recruitment data management.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student prospect data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 70% during peak recruiting seasons, including overnight travel, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to report to the Fort Valley State University campus at least two days each month.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive for extended periods.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

  • The Associate Director of Admissions Marketing controls and assigns work for this position as needed.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of complex and varied duties related to student recruitment, territory management, and enrollment strategy.
  • The position directly impacts institutional enrollment goals, regional brand visibility, and student access to higher education.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The work is typically performed in an office.
  • The work typically requires driving for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and assemble/disassemble display materials.
  • September through May is the peak recruiting period; during this period, extensive travel and school visits will be required.
  • May be required to work beyond regular work hours (evenings and weekends) as defined by the needs of the department.
