The Reddit of today is built on top of communities (subreddits) where conversations are created daily on millions of different topics. However, the current experience lacks a real-time, casual environment that is more innate of a chat experience which is due to the forum-like structure of Reddit’s Posts and Comments. The Chat team is taking this problem head-on and has the ambitious goal to make synchronous conversations a core part of the Reddit community experience. We believe that giving users a more casual way to communicate will unlock new ways for communities to grow. We are hiring a Senior iOS Engineer who can help us innovate to create the next Reddit chat. We are seeking a like-minded engineer, who will work on a high-impact project with wide visibility within the company and join a team of brilliant engineers like yourself. You’ll get a chance to contribute to the product and business strategy, in addition to technical challenges and work alongside product managers, user experience designers and business analysts. The Role Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute product and business strategies and build novel products and features that our users will love on the iOS platform. Communicate effectively, within the team and across disciplines. Work closely with product managers and designers to craft compelling user experiences for iOS. Contribute meaningfully to our team’s strategy. We give everyone a seat at the table and encourage active participation in planning our future. Don’t just come along for the ride. Participate in product reviews and team meetings, providing technical insight specific to iOS development. Help scope, estimate, and prioritize between conflicting needs. Foster a healthy engineering culture and collaborate with other iOS and platform engineers. Bring your expertise in iOS development to contribute to the architecture and implementation of our chat features. What We Are Looking For: Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise. 5+ years of hands-on, professional software development experience developing user-facing iOS native applications at scale, using Swift . You are a strategic thinker who thrives on developing a long-term technical foundation and has a passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people’s lives globally on iOS. A track record of leading large iOS projects that require cross-team and cross-functional collaborations. Experience with modern iOS development frameworks and patterns such as SwiftUI , UIKit , Combine , and Concurrency . Entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments. You love to build new things and thrive in ambiguity and even failure. Experience working with cross-functional teams such as design, product, data teams to deliver great user experiences on the iOS platform . In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission.
