Position Summary

New River Electrical is looking for a qualified Shop Assistant skilled in fleet tools and inventory. As the Shop Assistant, you will support the Fleet & Facilities function. Working in a garage environment, you will support the shop team by providing safe and reliable tools. This position purchases, maintains inventory, performs testing, calibrations/inspection/certification and repairs on tools as well as fulfills orders. This role also maintains awareness of changing DOT compliance and regulations. This role reports to the Shop Foreman.

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Maintain, monitor and ensure tool and material inventory is maintained and available to shop teams utilizing ToolWatch Software.
2. Purchase and receive tools and materials utilizing ToolWatch Software for tracking.
3. Inspect, repair and calibrate tools for proper operation and safety function.
4. Utilize ToolWatch software to track work orders and calibrations ensuring proper equipment is available for use.
5. Keep up to data on the knowledge and compliance of DOT regulations and compliance.
6. Safely deliver and recover equipment, materials, tools to various sites.
7. Load a variety of equipment on trailers in compliance with DOT specifications.
8. Manage recalls, promote new tooling, demos and procedures.
9. Other task as requested by Shop Foreman.
10. Heavy travel for this position is not expected working in a shop environment, but some travel may occur.

Qualifications

1. H.S or Technical School degree, experience in the automotive repair field with preference toward garage and/or trade school experience a plus.
2. Ability to explain basic components of automotive repair and tools.
3. Basic understanding of automotive repair including use and care of tools.
4. Basic knowledge of automotive diagnostics and tooling including inspection, repair and calibration.
5. Understanding of basic inventory function including how to anticipate the ordering of tools and equipment.
6. Ability to track and monitor DOT regulations and compliance including the education of any changes to Shop Foreman and team members.
7. Ability to work with various tools and equipment safely and effectively.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
9. Demonstrated competency in developing and maintaining internal team relationships.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
12. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
13. Exhibit the highest level of business ethics and consistently adhere to and promote New River’s values and beliefs.
