What we are looking for: Motivated individuals who love animals and are excited to continue in the field - or get started! Over the years we have welcomed and departed with hundreds of Veterinary Students some of which have started with no veterinary/animal care experience. Veterinary/animal care experience is a plus, but not required - we are happy to train the right person. Our ideal candidate is an energetic team-player who’s eager to learn more about veterinary medicine. Veterinary Technician Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Duties: Patient Care: Provide nursing care to inpatients and outpatients. Monitor and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, and respiration rates. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian. Assisting with Procedures: Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures. Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving and sterilizing the surgical area. Monitor anesthesia and assist in the recovery of patients post-surgery. Diagnostic Tests: Collect samples for laboratory analysis, such as blood, urine, feces, and tissue. Perform in-house diagnostic tests, including blood tests, urinalysis, and cytology. Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment, such as X-ray machines and ultrasound equipment. Emergency Care: Provide emergency first aid and stabilize patients in critical conditions. Assist in emergency surgeries and treatments. Administrative Duties: Medical Records: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes. Update records with new information after each visit or procedure. Client Communication: Communicate with pet owners about their pet's health, treatment plans, and aftercare instructions. Answer client questions and provide educational information on pet care and preventive health measures. Facility Maintenance: Sterilization and Sanitation: Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized treatment area and examination rooms. Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and sharps. Animal Handling: Restraint and Handling: Safely handle and restrain animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Ensure the safety and comfort of animals during their stay at the clinic. Feeding and Grooming: Assist with feeding and grooming of hospitalized animals. Monitor animals for any changes in behavior or health and report concerns to the veterinarian. Education and Training: Continual Learning: Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with veterinary practices and technologies. Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions as required. Additional Responsibilities: Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and other clinic staff to provide the best care for patients. Participate in team meetings and contribute to improving clinic procedures and protocols. Required Skills and Qualifications: Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues and pet owners. Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and restraining animals. Compassion: Genuine concern for the well-being of animals and a commitment to providing high-quality care. Unrequired Skills and Qualifications: Experience: Prior experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital is beneficial. Knowledge: Basic understanding of animal behavior, nutrition, and healthcare. Technical Skills: Proficiency in handling medical equipment and performing diagnostic tests.
